St. John De Britto School, Gomoh, popularly known as DBH, was a unit of Damien Social Welfare Centre, Dhanbad was established in the year 1972 on 23rd August with just 36 boys and two teachers. It was the dream of Late Rev. Fr. Lawrence Hunt, S.J who was then the director of DSWC. His aim was to reach out to the children of Leprosy patients in and around Dhanbad District by imparting Education in Hindi so that, these discriminated children may have a stand in the society. At the beginning it was purely a residential school for these under privileged children. Gradually the resident boys increased and within ten years there were 400 students on roll. The school continued imparting primary education to the children up to 1986. After Vth Std. the children were sent to Bishop Rocky School to complete their High School education.  In 1986, Fr. Saleth Soosai, S.J. felt the need of upgrading the school to enable the boys to continue their education without shifting to another school. In 1988 the school opened its doors to the local community besides the residential boys, the Day Scholar boys and girls were admitted into the school which helped the residents to mix freely and grow healthily sharing and caring for one another. The interest of the school grew and embraced many more boys and girls. Every year there was an addition of higher class and today we have a full fledged High School. The first batch independently appeared their Bihar Board Examination in 1992. Fr. Edward Saldanha, then, Principal left no stone unturned to give the boys the best.
